Love Is the Strangest Thing...
Sometimes, love can be the strangest thing, yet also a wonderful thing to come by. There is an age old question asked by many: what is love?
I wonder about that question sometimes. How can a single person describe that strong emotion within us all? Love is many things, and comes in many forms. Love can be both grand and painful. It can be something romantic, or something platonic. There is a kind of love called unconditional love, in which a person loves another no matter what. Most families have that unconditional love, for example, the love between a mother and her child can be counted as unconditional love. I guess the same can be applied to couples who are married for many years. They have unconditional love for each other. I mean, think about it. Don't you find it amazing for two people to stay together for many years, and still feel that same kind of love that they've had ever since they've first met? I hope that sentence made any sort of sense.
Anyway, I started thinking about love, and long distance relationships, and online relationships. Is there any real love involved in these types of relationships? When I look at my relationship, I can see all the love involved. After all, V and I have been together for four years. We still feel that same kind of love for each other we felt four years ago. Then there is my friend Liz, who's boyfriend was studying in England. He recently came back to the United States to live with her. They have been together for about two years now, and have done the whole long distance relationship part of it. I know it was a bit hard for Liz at times, but they made it through. It was that strong love, that strong determination and commitment to each other that held them together. They were also communicating a lot, and found other ways to spend time with each other, even though they could not spend time with each other physically, at the time. They have had a few fights, but they have made up, and reconciled. I can see that their relationship is grand, and they get along great with each other. There is real love there, and they can be considered as a long distance couple (even though they are not any longer.)
It is true, there are some relationships that do not work out, and that sometimes, there can be betrayal involved. I have read in some LDR and online relationship forums, where the girlfriend would find out that the guy has been cheating on her all along. Now, this can happen in any relationship, not JUST long distance, or online relationships. My own sister's boyfriend cheated on her (they are still together, even though I think that he is a prick). Hell, they worked together, and met each other at work about five years ago. Their relationship is not that great, but hey, maybe they will work it out, maybe they won't.
Anyway, I am probably going off topic here. The original topic was about love. So, my take on love? Love is when you smile, when you see that person every morning when you wake up. You want to do anything you can to please that special someone, and to make that person happy. Love is when you are willing to compromise with the person, when doing activities together. Love is equal, and a powerful emotion. It can be both rewarding, and hurtful. Pain sometimes can come with love. Pain with love, is missing a person. You are upset when that person is upset. You cry when you see your SO cry. You want to do everything in your power to make that person happy again. Love is when you cannot see yourself without that person in your life. You NEED that person in your life. Love is wonderful, amazing, beautiful, hurtful, confusing, passionate, romantic, special. Love is... simply everything.
Now, there are many forms of love. There is platonic love, which is a love between friends. This kind of love can be strong, and bonding. Most people have best friends and close friends. Those type of friends, are friends that a person can consider as a brother, or sister. They are the friends that a person can turn to, and talk about almost anything with them without being judged. They are the friends that can give you the good advice, and also help you out with problems. They are the friends that you can joke around freely with.
Then, there is romantic love. Everyone knows this type of love. Everyone has been through this type of love. It is the sweet, charming kind of love, where everything is beautiful and full of happiness and sunshine. The two people are attached at the hip to each other. They are the people who would confess their love to the world. This love is often seen in the first few months of the relationship (it can also be a stage of love, called the "Honeymoon Stage.")
Passionate love? This love is very, very strong and bonding. I would also have to describe as a soul mate type of love. Maybe Soul mates is a better word for it. It is as if the two people were meant for each other! You can see it in their eyes, their body language, and the way they speak to each other. It is as if the two people have a deep connection with one another. It is passionate, strong, very bonding, almost spiritual. The two people are perfect for each other! It is the type of love, where the partner only thinks about his or her significant other. When the two people are together, they feel as if they are whole, that they are one with each other. When they are apart, they feel almost empty. They are passionate with each other, in their love making, and sometimes their actions. They may also know each other so well, that they are not afraid to tell everything to their partner (their wants, fears, desires, etc.) They are confident in their love, and honest with each other. They are not afraid to joke around with each other, and may add some humor into their relationship (after all, laughter is healthy in a relationship, is it not? If sex should be humorous at times!)
Well, I think I have explained just about everything, or everything that was swirling in my mind at the moment. What do you all think love is?

Love is breakfast in bed, with fresh squeezed orange juice. :P
