The Start of the Tale

This will have to be the start of this tale, and adventure that I am about to tell you guys. This first post will be about how I met my boyfriend from England. It is a sweet tale, with a touch of romance; a tale that has not ended yet. This is only the beginning.

It started in the year of 2007, when I was a junior in High School. I was beta testing this online game called Pirates of the Caribbean Online. I think you all have heard of it. It is a game based on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, made by the Disney company. Anyway, I was playing this game, and here comes along this other player, trying to get me to join his guild. At the time, I was ignoring his requests, until he finallyed messaged me on the game and asked me why. So what do I do? I message the player back, and decide to join his guild! So, there you have it, me, in my first guild on this MMORPG. We talk for a bit, and play together, and eventually exchange our MSN addresses. We had started talking in the month of September, and continue talking to October.

As we continue talking and playing the game, I found myself growing attracted to his antics, and the way he presented himself. He came off to me as a confident guy, with a good sense of humor and a kind heart. I know, this part sounds like I am wearing rose colored glasses, but is true, and is still true to this day. Anyway, on with this tale (I will try to make it as quick as possible... or maybe not.) So this guy... he will be known as V in this, and maybe throughout this whole blog, confessed his attraction to me, and I do the same for him. What did we decide to do? Why, became boyfriend and girlfriend of course!

Now, that part sounded all great and dandy, right? We were finally girlfriend and boyfriend. Well... there were two small problems with that. Problem number one was that he lived in England and I lived in the United States. Problem number two? He was twenty three at the time, and I was sixteen (going on seventeen in November. Can anybody catch what musical that bit was from? I will give you a cyber cookie if you do!) Ok, yeah, I know what most of you are probably thinking. Most of you are probably thinking that he is after only one thing, or that it will never work out, or I was too young to be even thinking of going into an online relationship, let alone dating a twenty three year old. Well, let me tell you... my mother was not too thrilled about it. She still is not. There were some friends that supported it, and others that obviously opposed of the whole thing.

Now, I will have to agree, that when a person gets into an online or even a long distance relationship, it can be tough, and very hard at times. After all, the physical contact is completely gone, and both people have to put a lot of effort into communicating with one another. There is also a lot of trust that goes into these kinds of relationships. Well you know what? Both V and I tried our hardest to maintain the relationship back then. We were honest with each other about everything, we tried to communicate as much as possible, and yes, I have to admit, there were our intimate times as well. We also tried our best to spend time with each other, either by playing games or watching movies at the same time (we still do that, to this day.) We are still together, four years later (and yes, we have met, last year.) We are still trying, against the naysayers of this kind of relationship. We are still optimistic about the relationship, and communicate as much as possible with each other.

To this day. we are trying to work out a way to finally end the distance between each other. The plan? Getting married, and then, I move my ass over to England. Will it take a lot of work? Yes. Will it be worth it in the long run? Yes. This is what this blog is going to be about. I am going to send you all through the trials and triumphs of having a long distance (or online) relationship. I will also share stories of others who have been in this kind of relationship from time to time, and both the successes and failures of one. This is a chance for the long distance relationship/online relationship not to be looked down as a taboo. This is a chance for it to shine. I will take that chance and share all that is to share about one. Will you?
